Review by Ronny

Series Name: Mountain Men, # 1
Bursting with spice, flannel, and drama, Mountain Boss is another addictive read by S.J. Tilly.
Favourite Quote:
“Courtney?” I say it again.
“Yes…” She nods, her brows knitting in confusion.
I shake my head again. “The application said Court.”
“Oh, um, that’s weird. Sorry about that.” She tacks on the second sentence when my expression doesn’t soften.
There is no fucking way Marty hired a woman.
No. Fucking. Way.
My eyes drop again.
And not just any woman. A woman cut from the exact type of cloth I crave.
A woman who looks like she could take anything I wanted to give her.
A woman I’d much rather have in my sheets than in my employ.
Book Synopsis:
Courtney
I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.
But this new job…
It could be the fresh start I need.
It could change everything.
The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.
Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.
As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.
I feel hope.
Sterling
My new employee is late.
I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.
But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.
A woman straight from my damn dreams.
Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.
And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.
But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.
Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.
And I realize there’s been a mistake.
I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.
No. She can’t work for me. End of story.
Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.
Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.
Review:
This was a fun, spicy romp and perfect for anyone looking for an easy, breezy romance to escape into for a few hours. I fell in love with S.J.’s Alliance series and was excited to see she was writing a new series where the leading men were all outdoorsy and rocking the plaid. Overall, I enjoyed this book. The Mountain Men series still has that fun, delightful, bonkers vibe that I have come to expect from an S.J. Tilly book, but without that heightened the sense of danger and violence you got with her mafia series. If you love a good boss-employee and slightly forbidden romance, then you will love Courtney and Sterling’s budding and lusty relationship. I genuinely enjoy it when two characters have to sneak around to get those quiet moments together. That sense that they might get caught just makes things more exciting.
I liked both characters. Sterling is that rugged, alpha boss, but with a gentler side that makes him a big softy when it comes to Courtney, though at first, he was a bit of an ass to her. But the man does some major grovelling and big gestures to compensate for his bad behaviour. I do love a man who has to grovel. Courtney is a fun and slightly pitiful character. She tends not to speak up for herself, which causes her to suffer needlessly, but I do get her wanting to prove to Sterling that she can do the job she was hired for. But I still wish she had stuck up for herself a bit more. I loved the fact that she talks to herself, something I do all the time, because I also work alone. The romance is fairly spicy. The lusty parts are pretty tame for an S.J. Tilly book, but they are still super enjoyable. I liked the chemistry of these two characters. I have a soft spot for a hero who is hell-bent on spoiling and caring for a heroine who has never had anyone take care of her before.
Mountain Boss has all the bonkers shenanigans that readers have come to expect from S.J. Tilly’s books.
