Series Name: Stage Dive, # 1

Lick is an easy-to-love rock star romance.

Favourite Quote:

He physically recoiled from me. “Let me get this straight, you don’t remember anything?”

“No,” I said, swallowing hard, “What did we do last night?”

“We got fucking married,” he growled.

Book Synopsis:

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favorite son is sure to be a wild ride.

Review:

What a ride! This is my first rock star and Kylie Scott romance, and I can tell you it won’t be my last. This book starts with a bang or a big hangover. Poor Ev wakes up feeling like death and realizes she isn’t alone. There is a gorgeous man in her hotel room that she has never met before, and a large ring on her left hand. If you are a fan of a waking up married trope, then you are going to enjoy this book’s setup. Ev does not remember anything from the night before, but David (the mysterious man) says they got married. Ev, of course, panics and David is pissed that she doesn’t remember anything. Their first interaction (that Ev can remember) doesn’t end well. Ev quickly realizes that David is a huge rock star, and when news of their marriage gets out, she is forced to flee to David’s band house in order to get their marriage annulled and escape the media’s spotlight. But things don’t go as planned, and the two of them run off and spend some time together. Of course, as the story progresses, other shenanigans and drama happen, which makes for a delicious read.

I loved the story. It’s an easy and quick read. Things progress very quickly, but it doesn’t feel rushed. This book doesn’t get bogged down with an overabundance of detail, and everything that happens happens for a reason. This is a single POV story. We only get to see the world through Ev’s eyes, which is not common in a lot of newer romances, which tend to be dual POVs. Kylie did a great job of delivering the story through only Ev’s POV. David remains a mystery throughout most of this book. We don’t really understand what’s going on in that guy’s head, but it’s pretty obvious that he has some trust and abandonment issues. Ev knows there is more to David than that broody rock star image he gives off, but it takes some major work and a heartbreaking third-act break-up to peel back all those layers. Kylie was very clever in how she gave us clues to David’s past and what he is keeping locked up. David’s character was really well done.

The story itself is bonkers and bursting with drama that can only come from dealing with a celebrity. The lifestyle of the rich and famous is on full display here, and Ev is having a full-blown fish-out-of-water experience. It’s a whole new world where you don’t know who to trust, and it’s not a warm and welcoming place to be in. It’s a cutthroat world. I ate up all the drama, and I can see how Kylie is beginning to set up the stories for the rest of the band.

The romance is spicy and also sweet, which surprised me. I knew it was going to be a hot romance with lots of sex, but I wasn’t expecting all the sweeter, quieter moments between Ev and David, especially near the end. There is a significant miscommunication between these two, which is no surprise, given that they have only known each other for a week or two. There is no dating or getting-to-know-you phase in their relationship, so, of course, misunderstandings and miscommunications are going to happen all the time, not to mention the pressures and drama that come with being a rock star, and the fact that not everyone is happy about their surprise marriage.

Lick is a must-read for any bookworm who likes a romance that is a little bonkers, very spicy, and is filled with all the drama that comes with being a celebrity.
