Series Name: Big Shots, #1
“I take over now, Josephine,” he rasped, kissing her thoroughly. “You want it like that?”
Her answer was fervent and clear. “Yes.”
“Good girl.”
Fangirl Down reminds us why Tessa Bailey is at the top of her game.
Wells Whitaker was once golf’s hottest rising star, but lately, all he has to show for his “promising” career is a killer hangover, a collection of broken clubs, and one remaining supporter. No matter how bad he plays, the beautiful, sunny redhead is always on the sidelines. He curses, she cheers. He scowls, she smiles. But when Wells quits in a blaze of glory and his fangirl finally goes home, he knows he made the greatest mistake of his life.
Josephine Doyle believed in the gorgeous, grumpy golfer, even when he didn’t believe in himself. Yet after he throws in the towel, she begins to wonder if her faith was misplaced. Then a determined Wells shows up at her door with a wild proposal: be his new caddy, help him turn his game around, and split the prize money. And considering Josephine’s professional and personal life is in shambles, she could really use the cash…
As they travel together, spending days on the green and nights in neighboring hotel rooms, sparks fly. Before long, they’re inseparable, Wells starts winning again, and Josephine is surprised to find a sweet, thoughtful guy underneath his gruff, growly exterior. This hot man wants to brush her hair, feed her snacks, and take bubble baths together? Is this real life? But Wells is technically her boss and an athlete falling for his fangirl would be ridiculous… right?
Fangirl Down is the start of a new series from Tessa Bailey focused on hot shot athletes and the women they fall for, and let me tell you, she’s starting this series hot. Wells and Josephine are two characters who are sexy and steamy, but also have their own challenges to overcome. Tessa is known for her feel good, romances with zany characters and alpha men who growl a lot. Wells and Josephine are classic Tessa characters but with some strong character arcs. Fangirl Down is a delight but also has some meat to it.
Josephine is a strong and independent character who is trying to make her family proud, figure her own path and live her life. She’s also managing her diabetes and the stress and worry that comes with the disease. Wells is a famous golfer who has fallen from grace. He’s a bad boy of gold with a hard past. He’s ready to give up his career, and give up on himself when his number one fan, Josephine, a golfer who runs her family’s golf shop, inspires him to keep going. Although Wells is a seemingly hard man, he discovers Josephine needs some financial help, She becomes his caddy for the season and uses all of her skill to inspire him to play golf like he used to. The one problem? He can’t stop thinking about Josephine as more than an employee.
Josephine and Wells are sexy and electric on the page together. They are passionate together, and I loved watching them give in to their urges. They are funny and well-fleshed out characters that I was rooting for from page one. While I’m a golf fan, I will say that even if you know nothing about the game you will enjoy the story, and maybe look at golf a little differently after reading the book.
Fangirl Down is perfect for fans of sports romance who like a lot of heart and steam in their stories.
