Review by Ronny

Series Name: NOLA Knights, # 2
Hers to Tame is another quick and fun mafia read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Favourite Quote:
Good grief, that man was dangerous inside reaching distance. Even without physical contact, he’d sent goosebumps out in al directions and stamped out all the other sensory inputs clamoring for her attention.
Book Synopsis:
As an avtoritet for the most powerful crime syndicate in New Orleans, Kir Vasilek doesn’t act without purpose, doesn’t speak without thought and never, ever loses his cool. The lives of his brothers, his family, depend on it. But then Cassie McClintock strolls back into his life, and staying cool is next to impossible. Cassie was the one who got away—and Kir is willing to break all his own rules to keep it from happening ever again.
It’s one thing to report on the Russian mafia; it’s quite another to sleep with one of them, especially one as dangerous, and as sinfully sexy, as Kir Vasilek. Even though the information he once provided helped make her career—and the memory of his touch still keeps her up at night—Cassie knows too much about his world to go down that path.
But when Kir reaches out for help after a rival family comes for one of his own, Cassie doesn’t want to say no, either to investigating a gruesome murder or to the heat that pulls her right back into his arms…and his heart. Taming Kir—and helping to save the family she’s come to call her own—is not the story she thought she’d write, but it’s the one she’s determined will get a happy ending.
Review:
I have been devouring this series all weekend, and I have to say I once again found myself enjoying the gruff overprotective mafia heroes that Rhenna has created. This is the second book in the NOLA Knights series, and can be read as a standalone. I actually read this series a bit out of order and still followed along with everything that was happening. As I mentioned in my other reviews for the other books in this series, this is a mafia series that does not cross into that dark romance territory. The heroes may be in the mafia, but they really don’t have any glaring red flags; there is little to no violence on the page, and the spice isn’t overly explicit. This book is great if you are looking for a fast and easy mafia romance to sink into for a few hours. The plot isn’t overly complicated, things move very fast, and you really are reading it just for the vibes.
Kir is more of the flirt of the trio of heroes in the series. He, of course, would never be tied down to one woman, but he also cannot forget his one-night stand with Cassie. I liked Kir and Cassie’s story. There is more of a mystery/danger element than in the first book, which I enjoyed. The danger stems from the events that happened in book one, but Rhenna catches her readers up on what is what, and to be honest, the plot isn’t overly complicated. Cassie is a news reporter who has helped Kir out in the previous book. When a mysterious enemy targets Kir’s mafia family, he once again turns to Cassie for help, which then in turn puts a target on her back. I liked the chemistry between Kir and Cassie.
Like Sergei, Kir has this very historical chivalry vibe to his character. He is a protector by nature, and when Cassie is in danger, he becomes a charming but slightly overbearing hero. Cassie, of course, does not enjoy being bossed around and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, letting Kir know she is not about to be pushed around. I just enjoy watching a hero turn into a frantic protector who finds himself chasing the heroine around. The romance between Cassie and Kir moves at a breakneck pace. For these kinds of quick and dirty romances, it’s best not to think too much about the details or how realistic the events that are unfolding on the pages are. You are reading this kind of book for the vibes.
Hers to Tame is a fabulously fun and easy mafia romance to get lost in for a few hours.
