Review by Ronny

Series Name: Stage Dive, # 4

Deep is a fun and slightly bonkers romance and a great conclusion to the Stage Dive series.

Favourite Quote:

He made a low noise that was pure damn sex of the vocal chords, I tell you. “Lizzy, when you say you don’t trust me it makes me feel like I want to tear shit up and go ballistic.”

Book Synopsis:

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible… but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

Review:

Now, I am going to come out and just say this: I don’t think this book will be for everyone. It’s an accidental pregnancy romance, which I know is not a popular trope amongst romance bookworms. Overall, I liked it. There were definitely things that I was disappointed with, but I still ended up reading it in one sitting. So, I obviously enjoyed it enough that I still managed to devour it as quickly as I did. I was excited for Ben’s story; I love a quiet, slightly broody hero. The problem I had with Ben’s character was that I wasn’t necessarily expecting him to turn out to be this clueless asshole. The distant way he treated Lizzy during her pregnancy was not something I had anticipated. He was completely clueless about Lizzy’s emotions and needs, and I had higher hopes for him.

This story is kind of a mash-up of different tropes: one-night stand, forbidden love, best-friend’s sister, what happens in Vegas, and so much more. I enjoyed the overall story. Things move fast, and it is definitely on the bonkers, would only happen in Romanceland plot. What I found interesting was that much of the communication between Lizzy and Ben is via text. I’m not always a huge fan of this kind of communication, but it worked in this case. These two don’t get to spend a lot of time together because of Ben’s job, so in order to show that there is some growth happening between these two, you have to have this element in the book. It was ok, I just miss that faster, wittier banter that you get from in-person dialogue.

The romance is nice-ish. I was hoping for a bit more swoony, butterfly-inducing moments. There are a lot of hurdles these two have to overcome, some from outside forces and some they created themselves. There are definitely miscommunication issues, and also those problems that occur when you date a Rockstar. But if you like your romances full of drama and have lots of ups and downs, then I think you will be entertained by Lizzy and Ben’s story. I do have to say, I did love the grand gesture at the end. It helped redeem the lacklustre performance Ben’s character had in this book.

Deep is a bonkers and slightly wild conclusion to the Stage Dive series.
