Series Name: Witchlore #4

Join the Riverwood crew one more time with Dragon Fires Everywhere.

Favourite Quote:

Dragons, even inanimate ones, do what and how they will. That’s only one reason that many of my favorite daydreams involve great fire-breathing creatures of legend.

Where good old Azrael might make others uneasy, likely because he’s been known to give off the occasional electric shock, I find his presence at the bottom of the stairs comforting. Like a sentry guarding anyone who resides upstairs.

Namely me.

Book Synopsis:

Newly-minted Historian of the soon-to-be-ascended Riverwood Coven Georgie Pendell has always played her part—so why does she feel like an outsider in her own life? Duped and dumped by her boyfriend, Georgie finds herself dismissing love as a fairytale. But when the words she reads aloud from an enchanted storybook free a dragon shifter, everything changes.

Georgie finds herself drawn to the dragon in ways she didn’t think were even possible for her, and her dragon, with his fiery golden gaze, all but claims Georgie as his own. But beneath his scorching intensity lies a secret, one that stretches back into the ancient past.

With the Joywood Coven still finding ways to upend the new order of the witching world, Georgie and her coven will need to prove themselves up to the task of being in charge, and right the wrongs their predecessors committed—if they can uncover the truth. Because something is missing. Something that will stop the Joywood once and for all. Something that only a Historian and an ancient dragon can find.

Review:

This is the fourth and final book in the Witchlore series, and I think it’s my favourite. I’m so sad to be done with this group of friends, and I truly hope the masterminds behind Hazel Beck bring us back more in the future! This is one of those books that I think you need to read the series before it in order to really enjoy. There are a lot of loose ends that wrap up very satisfyingly.

Our main heroine, Georgie, is kick-ass! She seemed like the dreamy one for the first few books, and I wasn’t sure that I’d find her book super engaging. Well, I was wrong. Let me tell you, Georgie blossoms. She finds her backbone after being cheated on and uncovering some dark family secrets. Oh yah – and spoiler, not a spoiler -her favourite dragon newel post is actually a shapeshifter trapped by black magic.

Georgie is having a super bad day and feeling incredibly sorry for herself and isolated when she accidentally brings a newel post to life. It turns out she has released a dragon shifter who has been entrapped by the terrible Joywood Coven. He is one of many shifters enchanted, Georgie realizes. Azrael is intense and charming and their attraction is immediate. Azrael has been waiting to be free so he can watch over Georgie in person during this lifetime. Azrael is broody and dark and has some secrets of his own. He knows some truths he’s not willing to share right away. The two are very hot together, and Azrael really challenges Georgie and sees her for her true self. He pulls her up and supports her, through her search to uncover the secret of her favourite childhood fairytale that suspiciously features a dreamy princess and a dragon.

I loved the mysteries in this book: they were intriguing and also served to pull the multiple storylines of the past few books all together incredibly well. It all felt very purposeful in moving the story forward as well as challenging and growing both Georgie and Azrael. The ending is bittersweet. I loved seeing where my favourite coven has ended up, and the future they are building together, but I already miss my Riverwood family.

I can’t wait to see what the writing duo behind Hazel Beck come up with for us next.
