Review by Kayleigh

Series Name: The Sherwood Witches, #2
I was happy to be back in Witchingdom for the long awaited second book in this series.
Favourite Quote:
My chest tenses as I work to lock that memory back up – the usual process for anytime even the mere hint of weakness threatens to make its way to the surface where my father can pounce on it. Unlike normal circumstances though, I’m not alone. LeLe mumbles something in her sleep and kisses my chest and then starts snoring quietly again.
And just like that, the tension is gone.
Book Synopsis:
It’s the curse of every family’s heir to be the responsible one. My family being the most powerful family in all of Witchingdom doesn’t eliminate that fact, it only makes it worse—and that’s why I, Leona Amber Sherwood, never do the unexpected. Except for that one time I did.
Believe me, I have rued the day that I got married in a midnight ceremony under a full moon to Erik Svensen, the heir to my family’s deepest, bitterest enemies, and now, he won’t agree to a divorce unless we return an ancient spell book to his family’s secured facility.
But on our road trip to return the book, I learn more about Erik as we encounter trolls, nymphs, satyrs, and more. The longer we work together, the more I’m convinced that he might not be the evil trickster I assumed he was. Any more time together will leave me even more enchanted with my husband and that’s the last thing I want. And if I keep telling myself that, maybe I’ll start to believe it.
Review:
I honestly didn’t think I’d get to be back in Witchingdom. I loved the first book in this series which came out in 2022. I was very excited to see this book come up on netgalley, especially as the last book had left me on a cliffhanger with the main characters of this book.
Leona and Erik are both powerful witches. Leona is strong, powerful and well-liked. Erik is, well, a playboy douche. Leona despises Erik. Erik finds Leona very hot and also needs her magic to deal with some family issues. Long story short, they end up married under false pretenses on Leona’s side. OOOOPS.
Leona is desperate to get the marriage called off. The wedding is not the politically advantageous wedding her family expects. And she hates Erik. Despises him. Can’t stand him. Until he smiles at her. And Erik? Turns out when you’re around the right person you can become a good person. I love these two dummies and loved watching their romp. Headwitch in Charge picks up where the last book left off: with the witches council out to get the families, and Leona needed to get a priceless magic book back into safe keeping, at Erik’s family house. If you haven’t read the book, or don’t remember, this book does a good job at bringing you up to speed and giving you the back story on how Leona and Erik ended up married.
And then, it throws you into the adventure: Leona and Erik end up on a road trip to his house. Leona has made it clear that when they achieve the goal, she expects him to sign the divorce papers and complete the divorce spell. Erik, however, has other plans, and between his plotting, and a wild cast of characters, the road trip becomes a journey with some pretty hilarious results. Throughout their journey, they meet and outwit pixies, trolls and werewolves. I loved watching them learn to work like a unit, especially as others saw how well they worked together even when they didn’t. These two got married in Vegas, so you can expect some fun spice scenes. Erik and Leona have chemistry. They also both have a lot of heart.
I really enjoyed reading about their story and their adventures (one bed! Wrong turns! Romantic picnics! Running for their lives!) and also about getting to know more about the Witchingdom families who live alongside normal human beings in a lot of places. You get to see more about how their family works, and how the heirs to the family’s powers are expected to live their lives. The book ends with an epilogue that shows the future and lets us know there are more stories coming. I am already excited to be back with these witches to see what adventure they go on next.
Thank you to Berkley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
