Every other month (or so), our Book Club picks a different trope or theme and we all bring a book that meets the criteria. It’s a fun way to build up our TBR piles and we thought you might enjoy their recommendations too!

Our annual BYOB – Weird & Wild edition book club was once again a resounding success. Every member rose to the challenge and collectively, we read some pretty weird stuff. “Weird” had a different meaning to each of us, and that made it all the more interesting. Although we wouldn’t necessarily say we would recommend these titles, we did have a lot of fun reading them. Here are the books we talked about:

Gnome Sweet Gnome by Elva Birch

He’ll win her heart, gnome matter what.

As the brains behind Wilson Kinetic’s rocket to success, Tobias Underhill measures up in every way but height. He’s got money, connections, and any woman he wants. But he knows his success is hollow without someone to share it with.

Gnomes might not have fated mates, but when Tobias spies the gorgeous and fascinating Harriet Slade, he’s sure that she’s just the woman to make his house a home.

Owl shifter and jewel thief Harriet Slade doesn’t bargain on meeting her mate at the holiday gala that she crashes, or getting caught with her hand in the cookie jar. But she’s no prize to be won, and she’s absolutely determined to be the one that got away.

Unclench Me Softly by Gwendoline Rose

Hi. I’m Bliss.

Yes, that’s my real name.

No, I don’t want to talk about it.

Here’s what you need to

I inherited a crumbling “spiritual wellness retreat” in the woods.

It came with back taxes, a clamshell-shaped steam dome, and a vulva pond.

To save it from demolition, I launched a fake men’s retreat called The Five Pillars of Divine Masculine Surrender™.

Then five emotionally constipated, spiritually smoldering men actually signed up.

And showed up.

With abs.

Now I’m running group howling circles, designing bullshit rituals on the fly, and trying not to spiritually marry all five of them just because they finally unclenched during Rage Yoga and learned how to hold space.

It was supposed to be a scam.

It might be a cult now.

And I might be in love with every single man here.

Including the one who’s probably investigating me. And the one who blindfolded me with my own robe belt and called it emotional realignment. And the one who brings snacks.

It’s fine.

Everything is fine.

We have a bonfire ceremony planned. There’s a newsletter. We’re soft now.

Bull Moon Rising by Ruby Dixon

As a Holder’s daughter, Aspeth Honori knows the importance of magical artifacts . . . which is why it’s a disaster that her father has gambled all theirs away. Now that her family is in danger of losing their hold—and their heads—if anyone finds out the truth, Aspeth decides to do something about it. She’ll join the Royal Artifactual Guild and the adventurers who explore ancient underground ruins to retrieve the coveted arcane items.

It’s a great plan—with one big problem. The guild won’t let her train because she’s a woman. Aspeth needs a chaperone of some kind. The best way to get around this problem? Marry someone who will let her become an apprentice. Who better than a surly guild member who requires a favor of his own? He’s a minotaur (it’s fine) who is her teacher (also fine) . . . and he’s about to go into rut (which is where it gets tricky). He also has no idea she’s a noble (oops), and he’ll want nothing to do with her if he discovers her real identity.

Now Aspeth just has to pass the guild tests, thwart a fortune hunter, and save her hold—oh, and survive a rut with her monstrous, horned husband, whom she might be falling in love with.

It’s time to dig deep. Literally.

Wrong.

Caleb has absolutely no intention of returning Ashley to her husband—and he has three days to figure out how to save her family’s farm from ruin and keep the woman he loves forever. But is there a method to his madness or is he just…mad?
