Series Name: Vancouver Wolves Hockey, # 2
Zoey sat at the island, watching my bedroom door. Waiting for me.
“I slept in,” I said as I walked into the kitchen. I needed a coffee like an addict needed his next hit. She would probably be okay if I told her we would go out another day.
“I’ve got your smoothie stuff ready.”
The kitchen was immaculate. She had filled the blender with my smoothie ingredients. I stood there looking at the blender and noticed that she had her boots on. Keeping my word with this chick was suddenly important.
The words tumbled out of my mouth. “Give me 15.”
Home Game is such an enjoyable, quick, and dirty read, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to escape the world for a few hours.
He’s a professional hockey player trying to survive on his new team. I’m just trying to survive.
I’m down to my last dollar.
I live day-to-day in a world that doesn’t care.
Despite my bad luck, I’m a fighter.
I never give up. I never stop trying.
Ryan Parker’s wealth and generosity, sets him apart from anyone I know.
Yet, I don’t trust him.
It’s nothing personal. I trust no one.
But when my bad luck takes a turn for the worse, one person shows up.
Ryan Parker.
I do not understand why he bothered because the guy has enough of his own issues to deal with.
But I don’t have a choice.
I need him. It’s a matter of survival.
His friendship changed everything.
It changed me.
I started to believe in myself.
I allowed myself to trust.
And for the first time, in a long time, I felt my heart beat again.
In the game of love, winning is harder than it looks.
I don’t know the rules.
I don’t know how to win.
But I’ll play my heart out until the whistle blows.
Home Game.
I am loving this series. In typical Ronny fashion, I’ve completely read it out of order, but each book reads as a stand-alone, so it’s fine. The synopsis for this book piqued my interest, which was why I decided to read it next. As I have mentioned in my other reviews for Odette’s books, this book is not meant to be a story full of detail and include situations that would occur in real life. You need to turn off that logical part of your brain when you read this book. Like Odette’s other books, this book is the full banana. There are a lot of crazy things happening in it, and it is fast-paced and doesn’t have tons of details. Think crazy soap opera drama and situations. Things that happen in this book would only happen in Romanceland and for romance reasons. All the things that I just said aren’t a bad thing. This book is meant to entertain you, and I can tell you it entertained this reader. I loved this book. It’s such a quick and fabulous read. I came to this series after a very stressful couple of weeks, and it was exactly what I needed. This book just sucks you in, and it doesn’t let go until the very last page. It’s fast-paced, and there is a lot going on. Some crazy side stories develop throughout the story, and Zoey and Ryan’s love story is filled with drama and steamy, lusty tension. I truly loved this book and its characters. I ended up re-reading it immediately.
Zoey and Ryan were perfect for each other and for this book. Zoey is experiencing homelessness and finds herself in a tough and dangerous position. She meets Ryan while helping him with some computer/accounting stuff at a local café. When Ryan realizes the situation that Zoey is in, he offers to let her stay at his place until she can get back on her feet. The protective side that Ryan has in this book is so wonderful, and it just rubs me the right way. Neither character is looking for a romantic relationship; Ryan needs to focus on his career, and Zoey just needs to figure out her life. What I liked about this book is that they don’t act upon those lusty feelings right away. Actually, there really aren’t any real spicy parts until the end. We still get to experience and feel that lusty tension, but neither act upon those feelings, which I was surprised about. Pleasantly surprised. I felt like it made their eventual romantic relationship more believable. They truly got to know each other first as roommates, then as friends. They talked and shared so many sweet moments that you just can’t help but fall in love with them.
I liked Zoey; she is this wonderful blend of innocence and hardened street smarts. Her childlike delight at being able to shop at Ikea leapt from the pages, and I couldn’t help but remember the first time I went to Ikea and was wowed at the megastore. Zoey has been through so much you cannot help but root for her. I loved watching as she found herself and was able to pursue her passions. Ryan was perfect. He was that perfect gorgeous hero, with that “touch her and die” protective side. Ryan is new to Vancouver and is having a tough time fitting in with his new team. There is some past drama that is making it hard for him to click in with this new group. It was really sweet watching this full-grown man try and make new friends. You can’t help but smile.
Home Game is another freaking amazing book by Odette Stone.
