Review by Veronica

“What can I get you?” she called over her shoulder. “There’s beer, scotch, whiskey, bourbon—”

“You.” With a soft laugh, Brody eliminated the distance between them.

Body Check is a fast and spicy hockey romance.

After a childhood spent being dragged around the country by her hockey coach father, Hayden Houston intends to take some time to figure out her future. Whether that future will include her currently off-again boyfriend remains to be seen. What it certainly won’t include is the for-one-night-only guy she just met at a bar.

It seems hockey star Brody Croft did not get the memo about being temporary. Big, bold and driven, he’s dedicated in everything he does. Up till now, that’s been his team—the one owned by Hayden’s dad. But his night with Hayden has sparked something he didn’t expect. The two of them are good together. Really good. There’s a connection he’s never experienced before, one he knows they’d be wrong to ignore. Even with a game-fixing scandal testing both their loyalties—to teammates, to friends…to family.

Part of Hayden wants to turn tail and run. A complicated relationship with a bad boy hockey player is exactly what she never wanted. But when it comes to Brody, Hayden is realizing that people can be so much more than what they seem.

I really do enjoy a good hockey romance; it must be the Canadian girl in me. I’ve been reading a lot of them lately, and I am proud to say that most of the hockey romances I have been reading are written by Canadian romance authors like Jenny Holiday, Becka Mack, and Odette Stone. Elle Kennedy has been on my radar for a while lately, so when I saw she had a new hockey romance coming out, I knew I needed to get my hands on it. Body Check is the perfect book for those bookworms looking for a quick, spicy hockey romance fix. This book is short and deliciously spicy. Things move pretty quickly in this book, which is expected since it’s just under 200 pages. I enjoyed everything about this story. The banter is witty and sharp, the characters are fun and relatable, and the spice is really nice… or really naughty.

There are lots of great tropes woven into this short story. You have one one-night stand, insta lust, forced proximity, and workplace romance. If you like romances filled with dirty talk, sex in all sorts of places, and a hero that falls first and harder then you will devour this book. I loved the chemistry between Hayden and Brody. It was a lot of fun, and at times, even hilarious, watching these two interact with each other.

Body Check is a quick and spicy read that is sure to satisfy any romance bookworm.

Thank you, Harlequin Romance, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
