Katie Shepard is, in no particular order, a fangirl, a gamer, a bankruptcy lawyer, and a romance author. Born and raised in Texas, she frequently escapes to Montana to commune with the trees and woodland creatures, resembling a Disney princess in all ways except age, appearance, and musical ability. When not writing or making white-collar criminals cry at their depositions, she enjoys playing video games in her soft pants and watching sci-fi shows with her husband, two children, and very devoted cat.

If you want to keep up on all things Katie, then check out her website or follow her on Instagram or Twitter.

What’s the strangest thing you searched for on the internet for your novel?

There’s a scene where the MCs go to an art opening, and the paintings were inspired by this artist that my high school teacher loved and whose name I couldn’t for the life of me remember. The only way I can describe their paintings is “pre-Raphaelite garden scenes where all the women are sheep.” It turns out that running search strings like “sexy sheep egg tempera art pre-Raphaelite” will lead you to some…weird places on the Internet. Then I added a throwaway line about “furry art” because I sure saw some things while looking up the sexy sheep.

What book (or author) made you fall in love with the romance genre?

It was Christina Lauren’s Sweet Filthy Boy.  That book has everything. Amnesia? Vegas wedding? Paris? Roleplay? A secret ex girlfriend? Delicious.

What is your favorite trope? Why?

I love “Just this once. Just to get it out of our systems.” I love unreliable narrators. Of course it won’t be just once! Of course it won’t get it out of your systems! Liars.

It’s the morning after, and a lover is making your main character the perfect breakfast in bed. What is it?

It’s a bowl of berries with whipped cream, but it’s in France, so of course it tastes better.

What book are you reading currently?

I stole an ARC of Ali Hazelwood’s upcoming paranormal romance, and it’s addictive. I’m glad I did my crimes in spooky season!
