She should have been embarrassed by her lack of professionalism, but the only feeling registering in her brain was awe. This was the bookish guy she was working with, this man with the arresting eyes and the startling strength? He was holding her up, by the waist, as if she weighed no more than a bouquet of flowers. Her hands, still clutching his shirt, felt nothing but solid, well-muscled flesh beneath the fabric, and she said the first thing that came into her mind.
“You’re not Photoshopped!”
How Sweet It Is is a laugh out loud swoontastic rom-com and a must have for any romance fans.
Event planner Kate Sweet is famous for creating the perfect happily-ever-after moment for her clients’ dream weddings. So how is it that her best friend has roped her into planning a bestselling horror writer’s book launch extravaganza? But the second Kate meets—or rather, accidentally maims—the drop-dead-hot Drake Matthews, her well-ordered life quickly transforms into an absolute nightmare.
Drake Matthews is tired of the spotlight and tired of his reputation as the Knight of Nightmares. He’s really a nice guy! But he’s not prepared for Kate, a fearless agent of chaos in steel-tipped stilettos, or for that sweet sting of attraction he feels for her. She’s inspiring him to take his writing in a whole new direction—one that no one expects. Because now Kate and Drake are changing up the rules, and this plot twist might just surprise everyone . . . including themselves.
This winter, I have made it my goal to tackle my ridiculous TBR stack at my house. I have so many books I have wanted to read, but they always seem to get pushed to the side because I often have to read new books sent to us from publishers. How Sweet It Is was the first book I picked to read from my TBR stack. When I first saw this book, I knew I wanted to have it because it sounded so delightful and fun. This book was everything I wanted it to be, and I plan on running to the bookstore to pick up the second book in the series when I am done writing this review.
This book was soooo much fun!! The meet-cute between Kate and Drake was utterly fabulous and so chaotic. I was howling with laughter, and I think it is one of my favourite meet-cutes of all time. This unbelievable fun chaos continued throughout the book, which made for such an entertaining and unforgettable reading experience. Dylan did a great job at checking off all those rom-com must-haves. She created this story that is fun, fluffy, and swoony while also ensuring it had depth and was relatable.
All the characters in this book were wonderful. Kate is one of those characters that you enjoy hanging out with. It was amazing watching her work. Her passion for creating these perfect events just leapt from the pages. I could connect with her because I also plan events and understand all the work and time that goes into creating them. It was fun watching Kate, who is usually so organized and put together, become this ball of chaos and disarray whenever Drake was around. It makes for some pretty entertaining moments. Drake was surprisingly more complex than I thought he would be. I just loved him to bits. I thought he would be this guy who was so sure of himself and comfortable with all the “limelight” he gets from his books. But he wasn’t. He was a shy and awkward guy who feared he would fail. It was really sweet seeing the more vulnerable side of him. It was a lot of fun watching him work as a writer. He was constantly looking for inspiration or researching his next book, and I enjoyed that behind-the-scenes experience. I love seeing how an author’s come up with ideas for their books.
I ate up Kate and Drake as a couple. Everything about this couple just worked and made sense. Their relationship was this perfect blend of forced proximity and workplace romance. Dylan did a great job at creating this relationship that was fun and swoony but also real and raw. I loved the spicy build-up between these two. I just wanted to keep reading to see when they would finally kiss and get together.
I am so excited to read the next book, which follows Imani (Kate’s best friend) and Zander (Drake’s brother).
How Sweet It Is is perfect for romance readers looking for that fun pick-me-up book.
