Review by Veronica
Get ready to be swept away in this dashing historical romance.
Lady Johanne’s smile deepened as he approached. He stumbled before righting himself. Her smile was like the sun coming out after a week of rain. He briefly stopped in his tracks, alarmed at his thought process. Now, he was practically spouting poetry. How humiliating. The blow to his head must have been more severe than he’d thought.
A dramatic fake betrothal story
She’s rescued a knight
Now she needs the favor returned…
When widowed Lady Johanne happens upon an injured knight, she sees an opportunity to form an alliance and protect her home, Castle Brae, from her enemies. The betrothal she proposes might be merely for appearances, but the very real attraction between her and Sir Alewyn thrills and disturbs her. For it’s clear he’s hiding something… Can she trust him with so much at stake?
Fans of Harlequin Historical Romances will want to read Ella Matthews’s latest novel, Secrets of Her Forbidden Knight. I devoured this book in one sitting, and I have to say it was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Secrets of Her Forbidden Knight is full of action, romance, spies, and political intrigue. I just got sucked into this story right from the first chapter. There were plenty of twists and turns, all in the right places. I actually wished the book was a bit longer because I didn’t want to leave the world that Ella had created. I found myself trying to figure out who the real mastermind behind the plot was to overthrow the King and Lady Johanne.
I liked the characters in this book. Both Joanne and Alewyn are fabulous. They are charming, genuine, and smart characters. Both are trying to find their self-worth and prove to themselves and to others that they are worthy of the roles that they find themselves in. There is a certain amount of mistrust between these two, and it makes them hesitant to act upon the attraction they feel for each other. I just loved the will and won’t they moments between these two. It had me wanting to turn the page to see if they would finally give into their feelings and kiss already. Those who like their Harlequin books with a bit more spice will enjoy the few intimate scenes between Joanne and Alewyn.
Secrets of Her Forbidden Knight is a swoony historical read that you will not be able to put down.
Thank you, Harlequin Historical and Rachel Random Resources, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
