Series Name: Falling for a Stewart, #2
“How many nights had she dreamed of his face and prayed for his return? So many that her body ached for him even still, even now when she knew he had abandoned her.”
The Lost Laird from Her Past is an epic historical romance that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Lady Brenna Stewart is grateful to be saved from her burning carriage—only her rescuer is Laird Garrick MacLean, the man she once loved and lost! He seems determined to protect her from the unknown enemy pursuing her across the Scottish Highlands. But, bitterly hurt by his past betrayal, she needs answers. Why did he abandon her? And how can she keep her heart safe now, when the connection between them is as strong as ever…
I was excited when I got the ARC for the second book in the Falling for a Stewart series, and I was thrilled to see that the story focused on the ever-so-charming Garrick and sweet Brenna. First off, this book is amazing!!! It does not suffer that dull second book in a series syndrome. It is so different from the previous book that I couldn’t help but be captivated and engaged with what I was reading. There is so much action, mystery, drama, and romance rolled into this little book (only 200 pages). I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know more about this mysterious, sinister plot unfolding in the story. You can read this book as a stand-alone, but if you love historical Highland romances, you will want to check out Eloping with the Laird (the first book in the series).
What surprised me most about this book was the sheer amount of action and fighting that was in it. I soaked up every battle scene. Brenna and Garrick find themselves on a treacherous journey, trying to escape an unknown foe. Neither knows who they can trust, and danger seems to be nipping at their heels with every turn they make. There is also a more significant political intrigue plot happening throughout the story between the Highland Clans and the King of England; let’s just say that there is never a dull moment in the Highlands.
For all those romantics, this love story is about second chances and forced proximity. Both Brenna and Garrick fell in love in the first book and were set to be married. But a cruel twist of fate caused their relationship to fall apart. A year goes by before these two are reunited, and events of the past year have changed them. Garrick has lost his family and clan and no longer feels worthy of marrying Brenna. She feels like Garrick abandoned her and didn’t love her enough to marry her. There is a lot of hurt and misunderstanding between these two. But the sparks, passion, and chemistry between Brenna and Garrick are still there. I loved the interactions between these two characters. There was just this wonderful mixture of fun, witty conversations and those more serious, heartfelt talks. I loved these characters; they both just had so much depth, and their love for each other is just so evident (even when they are fighting it).
Now I can’t wait to read the third book, which I am hoping will be all about Ewan!
The Lost Laird From Her Past is an exciting historical romance that will capture your heart and never let it go.
Thank you Harlequin Historical, Rachel Random Resources, and Mills and Boon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
