Win-win 🙂

“From this day forward, I will stop trying to be perfect. For better, for worse, I will throw caution to the wind. For richer, for poorer, I will say yes to every opportunity that comes my way. To have and to hold, from this day forth, I commit to my own happiness. This is my solemn vow. Forever and ever, Amen.”

Who doesn’t enjoy a little vacation read? This sweet, fun book is a great choice if you need to live vicariously through someone else’s vacation.

After being jilted at the altar on her wedding day, Annie isn’t sure what to do next. Her whole carefully planned life is now in shambles. To get out of her slump she joins a gym where she bumps into her childhood friend Patrick from drama camp. As easy-going and (seemingly) carefree Patrick reminds her of how fun she used to be, Annie begins to rethink her life, making vows to herself. When her former in-laws insist she take her all expenses paid honeymoon trip to Australia, she impulsively invites Patrick to join her. With Annie needing healing and Patrick facing secrets of his own, will they both find what they need in Australia?

I really enjoyed this book. Annie’s character is very relatable and likable. Although at first she comes off as being a bit of a doormat by letting people take advantage of her and not wanting to cause a fuss, her backstory is well constructed so that you get a great sense of why she is the way she is. Watching Annie reclaim herself and grow as a person over the course of the book is a great experience for the reader and frankly, more than a little inspiring for those of us that could use a little nudge to create a life we feel great about.

Patrick is a great book boyfriend. I loved his relaxed and laidback vibe. Don’t worry though, he isn’t all Mr. Goodtimes. He too has a compelling history that will give you all the feels and make you love him even more. The romance between him and Annie is so tender. I loved how despite their obvious immediate connection, they force themselves to be just friends. It gave the romance storyline a more realistic feel. It was both love at first sight and slow-burn at the same time!

The extra bonus of this book is the details of their Australia trip. I loved following along with their itinerary and visiting the country through Annie’s eyes. From the countryside to Sydney, they do all kinds of fun things. I’ve already added Australia to my dream destinations list.
