Win-win 🙂

“Anne,” he said, sliding his hands into the front pockets of his jeans with casualness she wished she could emulate. The dimple deepened as his smile grew into a grin she knew all too well, one that never failed to make her wary. That smile was trouble, More specially, trouble for her.

Get ready to be swept into a modern-day retelling of Anne of Green Gables.

Anne has packed up her bags and is ready to leave her beloved childhood home in Avonlea, Long Island. Saying goodbye to Marilla and Matthew, Anne moves to the isle of Manhattan with her best friend Diana Barry, where she will be completing her final year of grad school. Anne is ready to find her voice as a writer and also take on the world. However, her plans hit a major speed bump when Gilbert Blyth shows up at Redmond College to complete his final year of school. Anne finds herself having a hard time figuring out where she stands with Gil, and he isn’t making things any easier by flashing those very distracting dimples at her. Things become even more complicated between the two when they find themselves working together on a thesis project. As they work together, it becomes harder and harder to deny the chemistry that exists between them. Their relationship starts to change, and Anne begins to wonder if what they feel for each other is real. Can Gil convince Anne that his feelings are real and their relationship is worth fighting for?

I was really nervous to start this book. I love Anne of Green  Gables series. It’s my favourite book, and I know that retellings can go terribly wrong. I am delighted to say that Brina did a fabulous job at capturing the essence of Anne and her world and adapting it to a modern-day rom-com. It was such a fun read, and it felt like my favourite book got a fabulous make-over. Brina captures Anne’s spirit right from the first chapter, and it was a neat experience seeing how Anne would live in our modern-day world. It was fantastic to see how Brina took well-known places and events in the classic story and modern-day life. I also loved that the original cast of characters became more diverse and dealt with real problems and issues.

The relationship between Anne and Gilbert was just so perfect. It has the right amount of sweetness and steaminess that will have your heart beating faster. They have such fabulous chemistry, and it was beautiful watching them going from rivals to lovers. One of the things that I loved most about this book was that Brina wrote chapters from Gil’s perspective. It was enthralling reading Gil’s thoughts and how he sees Anne.

Anne of Manhattan is a fun and fresh take on the beloved classic Anne of Green Gables.
